The Samsung Galaxy S4 is a great phone and with the right software, it can be made even better, and this is exactly what MCT Dongle 2.1.3 does. The reason why we like this app so much is that it’s both simple and extremely effective. It’s not difficult to install through Odin, which only takes a few minutes if you have a rooted device (or if you’re willing to wait for Odin to finish installing). Once Odin has finished installing the driver and installed everything, rooting your device isn’t difficult at all; once you’ve rooted it, you can download any app from either the Play Store or from normal Android apps on the web directly and run them without having to worry about rooting your device first.

Samsung’s method of removing security features like FRP is easily bypassed using this app: all you have to do is rename the root file “security_no_frp” in /system/data/com.Samsung.security_no_frp_root. You’ll notice that there are two files after “security_no_frp.” The first one is called “firmware” and that’s just the name of an app; the second file after “firmware” is called “security.” The file names following these two files are names of different apps from Samsung; they’re all signed by Samsung but they’re free!

For those of you who have an MTK v4.0 or v4.1 smartphone, and for those of you who are thinking about getting one, remember that even though MCT Dongle doesn’t support the MTK firmware version 4.0, it does support version 0.9 and higher.

If you have an MTK v4.0 (or newer) handset and didn’t know about this, you may have noticed that MCT Dongle will not work on any version of Android older than Android 3.2 (Gingerbread). This is because there is a compatibility issue with the old WiFi standard called EMBEDDED_WIFI_STANDARD, which was introduced in Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) and has been supported by MCT Dongle since version 0.9 before being dropped in 2.1 (which supports the newer standard).

The workaround for this issue is to install the latest MCT Dongle beta release in two steps:

1) Download the latest full-featured release from http://mctdongle-beta-releases.sourceforge.net/downloads/ as well as the mctdongle-beta-releases-270710 folder from above (this will take a few minutes to download), then install it on your phone using Odin and connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable. Note: if you are using Windows 7 or lower OS, you can instead use USB Debugging Mode to connect your phone to your computer and use Odin instead if you want to avoid having to manually install the software first

2) Once installed, open Odin on your computer, navigate to where MCT Dongle was installed previously and select the Upgrade mctdongle_0_9 folder. Then press Start when Odin goes into bootloader mode. You should see “MCT Dongle” listed in “Status” at this point. Select Yes when Odin asks if you want to install the upgrade file. When done, return back to Odin, go back into recovery mode, select Update, then perform a full system flash by pressing VOL DOWN + VOL UP + POWER until “MCT Dongle” appears on the screen. Note: if you didn’t have a previous full system flash before doing this step, make sure that your phone is fully charged so it can be flashed without being powered off first
